Venting systems are used on marine vessels to balance pressure differences between the cargo tank and the surroundings.
Mixtures of flammable cargo vapor and air are expelled during loading and unloading, and vent systems prevent flames from entering the piping system and the cargo tank. This is called Flashback. Flashback happens if the system is accidentally exposed to a spark or ignition. It can result in an explosion. In worst-case scenario, it can lead to loss of life, but also substantial equipment losses.
International and national standards for flame arresters are rapidly evolving. At Pres-Vac Engineering, we carefully monitor development in this area in order to ensure compliance with current and expected regulations for IIA – IIB3 and IIB explosion groups.
